Hi there,

I have a total of 8 years of professional experience in reliability, project management, electronics/electrical engineering, failure analysis/troubleshooting and quality assurance from the military and electronics industries. I have been trying and it has been very hard to get into the mining or oil and gas industry even with my experience. Does anyone have any idea if I am interested in the electrical/electronics engineering or reliability engineering?

Cheers

William

I am a 60+ registered builder looking to get back into mining either as an operator or construction side. Worked for BHP in the 70s driving Payhauler International 50 tonner, Hough 400C & CAT988 loaders & 200t road trains for nearly 3 years in the Northern Territory. I hold an MC license. Seems you need recent experience to get in nowadays & there are courses to upskill (at a cost of course) but just wondered if anyone has had luck getting operator positions following these courses.
Cheers

Hi,

Like most, I am trying to find a way into the mining industry. I am 23 and currently reside in South Australia; however I am willing to move where ever I need to in order to secure a position. I have been working in the Royal Australian Air Force for the past 6 years, so I do not have any current mining experience. My Father and Sister currently work up at Gladstone and have said that working in the mines is very similar to working in Defence because there are many of the same overarching safety policies and requirements, which is one of the main reasons that I am keen to transition over to the mining industry.

I have however completed the following courses / training:
- Diploma OH&S
- Cert IV Training & Assessment
- Senior First Aid
- White Card
- Management Fundamentals
- Leadership Fundamentals
- OH&S Awareness Training

If anyone has any tips that would help me to transition into the mining sector, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks

I am an Australian degree qualified Electrical Engineer with 20+ years experience as a Senior Project/Program Manager (ICT infrastructure and electronics engineering). I am interested in moving across to the mining industry but am unsure about which strategy to implement to do so. My wife is an ICT Recruitment Account Manager so understands the process well, but neither of us have any experience with the mining industry or specific mining recruiters. I'm looking for a professional and practical alternative to shot-gunning my CV to all and sundry, and would appreciate your advice on this matter. Thank you.

I live in the U.K & work in the Oil & Gas industry as a Thermal Insulation Engineer / sheet metal fabricator, I also have a teaching certificate & used to train & assess apprentices within the industry.I'm Looking to work on L.N.G projects in Australia & assist with apprenticeship program for Pattern development & insulation fabrication.
As most of these projects are only at the construction stages, & sponsored working visa required, its difficult as companies in this trade presently recruit only Australian residents.

Hi everyone does anyone know when of if The Wheatstone Village project has started taking on carpenters, im a carpenter form sydney, i applied for wheatstone about the start of july and was wondering if theres any new yet ?

Like everyone here, I want to join the mining sector. For me I'm wanting to secure a drillers assistant positio. I'm 32, have a HR drivers licence, and my white card. Currently living in Sydney, I would of course be willing to move inter state to get a start. For the past 6 years I have been working as a removalist. I am tempted to do a drilling course in cairns, but for one dont have the $3500 for the course, and don't know how needed it is. Ideally I would like to work a 2/2 or 4/2 roster in a coal seam gas role, but am open.
Any information would be greatly appreciated on how to get a start. I'm willing to work in any part of Australia.

So mr Kloppers, Apparently you think no one wants to relocate to WA?.
Are we supposed to just hang out in a tent in a town with extreme temperatures not equipped to handle the people you say you need?.
As we all know, its chicken and egg for us that want to "get in" to this biz. Where is the Traineeships?, Where is the incentives?.
It seems no one wants to pay (invest!) to train.
If the training was right, I would sign a (negotiable) contract for "The" company to recoup the money invested in me over time. fair is fair!. why is this such a hard concept?. I dont want to be cynical but I doubt its as simple as that.... thoughts?

I have just spent two years doing 8 Week on 2 Weeks off FIFO Work from Hobart to Karratha and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I would love more of the same, my only problem is I live in Hobart.
The determent doesn't seem to be me, but the attitude of Recruitment Companies and Human Resource personnel with there Family Friendly Rosters.I hate not working.
After doing 8 weeks on I believe it O.K if I go home to my Family in Hobart
Any offers?

Gday

I'm a 3rd, nearly 4th year mobile plant apprentice working for a dealership in Tasmania. I have completed all my TAFE courses, nearly all of my on the job paperwork and I'm only waiting for my time to roll over. My boss won't sign me off til the end of my 4th year. I need a change and I'd like to get into the mining or offshore industries, and get away from the confines of Tassie

What is the best way to go about this?

Thanks
