Gday

I'm a 3rd, nearly 4th year mobile plant apprentice working for a dealership in Tasmania. I have completed all my TAFE courses, nearly all of my on the job paperwork and I'm only waiting for my time to roll over. My boss won't sign me off til the end of my 4th year. I need a change and I'd like to get into the mining or offshore industries, and get away from the confines of Tassie

What is the best way to go about this?

Thanks

Hi there, my name is Ian Thistleton and im 28 years old, currently 1yr and 10 months through my electrical apprenticeship.
My current company has gone under which has left me unemployed but i still wish to continue my carrier within the field.
I would like to continue my apprenticeship within the mines, looking at your website to me seems like a good start.
Was inquiring to see if there was any opportunity of being apart of your company or any information that you could give me that would help me continue my apprenticeship within the mines.

Kind Regards
Ian Thistleton

Hi, I am enquiring about mining jobs in western Australia in particular vacancies for driving dump trucks. I am a dual citizen of the United States and Ireland and am prepared to immigrate if I can find a company that is willing to sponsor me with a 2-3 year visa. I have some experience in construction and driving heavy machinery and am prepared to work long hours. Any information would be greatly appreciated

I graduated with a BSc in Geology in 1996 from WITS University in South Africa, however I moved to England shortly afterwards and ended up working in IT. I have recently moved to Australia where I currently work as an IT consultant, and have had a little exposure to the industry in IT consultant roles, for example implementing IT processes for a CSG company 6 months, and IT audits at a few mine sites for Copper and Coal mines. I really want to make a carreer change into Geology, and would like a view on approaches please?

Hello,

This website is fantastic, very helpful!

I have a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering with more than 4 years experience in the water industry. I am interested in changing my career path and breaking into the mining industry. One aspect that appeals to me in particular is mine closure and rehabilitation (either at an operation level or on the consultancy side). I have researched the role and sent out a few tailored CVs to companies that specialise in the area but to no avail. The jobs I see advertised are always for Senior mine rehab specialists. What can I do to gain employment in this area? Would I have to apply for graduate positions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Daniel.

Hi,
I'm currently working with in Australia as a geologist in the coal seam gas industry. I am working under a 457 visa, therefore am sponsored by my employer. However, if I choose to move to another job this poses an issue, especially if I go into a consultancy role where they do not offer sponsorship. I would like to know if it is possible, whilst here in Australia on this visa, if I can apply for another type of visa or residency that will allow me to work freely with in the country as either a staff employee or a consultant.

Any advice regarding this would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time.

G'day

great site, i just discovered it. Am looking to get into the industry, have no relevant experience however do have many positive attributes. Currently a technician in telecommunications. Have done my underground induction which is valid for NSW and Qld. Am seriously cosidering a move to the west coast. Is it easier to get a start over there? currently live in newcastle / hunter region which seems to be a very desirable place for miners as you never see a cleanskin job advertised.

Hello all, i just wanted to ask has anyone used the service "Red Dirt Resumes" before, i wondered if it was a legit service and if its any good. Any input would be appreciated.

I'm a geology with more that 16 experience in the mining industry, I want lo live and work in Australia
what I should do?

Interesting that you have the survey for swings at the moment, wonder if any employers will take any notice?
Wonder if any employers will be innovative in HRM & offer choice of swings for the same job position, you know for staff moral, incentive to stay/staff retention, choice to change swings over time?
Hard for HR staff to manage? May be not, if they really want the employees to stay long term tit may be a good idea! :)

I have found through applying since 1995 for roles in Australia that the 457 work visa is age discrimatory (18-45 year olders), that getting a highly skilled work visa involves only international companies with offices in the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia, and the visa as well as the immigration policy in Australia needs a major overhaul. There are probably a lot of jobs in Australia for geoscientists at the moment due to the shortage of geologists in the mining as well as the energy of oil and gas sectors. The problem is that arranging visas can be a nightmare. First firms in Australia have to prove we can’t hire locally for a pool of available candidates. The make application which might take 3-6 months with no guarantee. Hence the hire local rule at the moment. I even got on a Quantas flight from LA, California and went to Sydney, NSW, Cairns, QLD, Brisbane, QLD, and Melbourne, VIC Australia June 10 to 25, 2005 with no results!!

One should not have to do what my oldest niece had to do by marrying a dairy farmer in Northern Ireland UK to establish legal right for a work visa or residency in the EU. In her case she was still treated as a third class citizen for being from the USA behind her hubby's drinking buddies and their livestock.

Can something be done to assist getting the best talent to do the job?
