Curtis LNG Project Jobs

CURTIS LNG PROJECT, Queensland 

The following project overview is current for 2012.  Our objective is to provide information on projects that are considered to have a strong likelihood of proceeding, where information in the public domain has been updated in the last 12 months and where we deem that the opportunity for jobs is also strong.

Operators:  Alliance between Queensland Gas Company Ltd of Australia and BG Group plc UK

Location:  Gladstone, Queensland

Timeframe:  FID announced in November 2011 with first LNG production scheduled for the end of 2013.  Bechtel has been appointed as the project contractor. 

Cost: Estimated $8b

Employment:  5,000 jobs during construction and 800 during operation.

Status: The project will involve the expansion of Queensland Gas Company’s Surat Basin gas production operations near Chinchilla, the development of a new 380km pipeline to Gladstone (central Queensland coast) and the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility at Curtis Island, near Gladstone.

Awarded Contracts and Employment Opportunities include:

  • Bechtel; awarded EPCM contract.
  • Thiess; awarded contract to build the coal seam gas processing facility generating 570 jobs: (http://www.theresourcechannel.com.au/blog/thiess-wins-major-contract-qgc-queensland-curtis-lng-project).
  • Toll Energy Logistics; awarded a A$45 million transport and storage contract to transport materials and equipment from suppliers to worksites and manage storage facilities to support construction activity in QGC’s gas fields in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland. The contract has started and runs until December 2014.
