Northern Territory to benefit from Inpex’s Icthys Project

The Northern Territory government last week accepted Inpex’s Industry Participation Plan, which details its commitment to providing significant opportunity for local employment and to local businesses.

The plan identifies employment and training opportunities for Territorians and helps local businesses to participate in the project during the construction and operation stage. This will give Territory businesses the capacity to compete against national and international companies in the energy sector.

Perdaman Industries now tendering

The $3.5 billion urea manufacturing plant proposed for construction at Collie, 200 kilometres south east of Perth, Western Australia, is now calling for tenders for specific work and supply packages

Using innovative and clean coal gasification technology, the plant will transform sub-bituminous coal into 2 million tonnes per annum of urea.

Brierty wins BHPB civil works contract

A $13.4 million civil works contract with BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina’s $2.5b Efficiency and Growth Project in Western Australia was this month awarded to Brierty Limited.

The contracted works includes bulk earthworks, drainage and road construction for Worsley’s Marradong mine, part of the Efficiency and Growth project. Brierty will mobilise a construction team to site in January 2010, with works expected to continue into 2011.

Ravensthorpe to get a new life

In less than 12 months, the Ravensthorpe Mine Site has seen a complete reversal of fortune, with First Quantum, a Canadian company, buying the operation and announcing plans to bring production online in late 2011.

First Quantum expects around 600 jobs – significantly less than the 1800 previously employed – to be created. The site will also require a number of changes and upgrades, which will generate opportunities for construction suppliers and employment.
