Rio Tinto has awarded Decmil Australia a $30 million contract to construct facilities for its operations in the Pilbara.

The contract covers a range of major infrastructure works and includes the construction of a heavy vehicle workshop and associated facilities, a first aid building, a security gatehouse, a communications hut and a radio base station facility.

Recently, the LNG industry’s contribution to the Queensland economy was noted in the State Budget announced by the Treasurer. As you might be aware, LNG is set to become the second largest export industry for Queensland from 2015-16. We are of course playing our part to shape this future industry for Queensland -- and establish the State as one of the largest LNG exporters in the world.

Macmahon has been name preferred contractor to deliver open cut mining services for Fortescue Metals Group’s Christmas Creek Iron Ore expansion in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. If awarded, this will be Macmahon’s largest ever mining contract, further building on our strong mining heritage dating back to the 1960s.

An exciting stage is upon us in the development of the Sino Iron project with the load commissioning of the first production line complete and the production of our first iron ore concentrate.

This is an important milestone for the project and it means magnetite ore can now be processed from the primary crusher through the grinding mills and magnetic separators. The iron ore concentrate can then be transported via the 30km slurry pipeline to the port stockpile ready for export.

Monadelphous has been awarded a contract with QGC Pty Ltd (QGC), valued at more than $80 million, to provide maintenance services at its Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) plant.  Monadelphous will provide multidisciplinary core maintenance and shutdown services to support the operations phase of the QCLNG plant, which is under construction at Curtis Island, near Gladstone in Queensland.

The National Apprenticeships Program initial 18 months pilot has been extended by the Federal Government for another 18 months.

John Holland has also agreed on their first intake of 25 for their Minerals and Industrial business and this intake is underway.  This first national campaign intake will focus on trades such as Electrical, Mechanical Fitter and Heavy Metal Fabrication Boilermaker/Welder. MIGAS Apprentices and Trainees a Queensland GTO, is the nominated Supporting GTO for this John Holland intake.  

NRW has been awarded a contract worth approximately $32 million under its five year framework agreement with Rio Tinto.

The contract for Rio Tinto’s West Angelas Access Road Project is for the upgrade of the existing road between Great Northern Highway and West Angelas mine in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
