Roy Hill launches National Campaign to source Australian construction workers

Roy Hill has launched a national recruitment drive to help source local Australian  workers for the construction phase of the Roy Hill project. The campaign is part of the organisation's commitment to employing local workers and in line with the requirements set out in the EMA.

As part of the campaign national workforce services company SKILLED has been appointed to secure advance expressions of interest from jobseekers for its project.

NAP graduates achieve trade qualification in ten months

The National Apprenticeships Program, developed to address resource sector skills shortages, is proud to announce its first two graduates have achieved trade qualification in ten months.

Thirty-five year old diesel-fitting apprentice, Chris O’Brien,and 30-year-old electrical fitter-mechanic, Ben Anderson, have just completed their training with Anglo American’s Metallurgical Coal business.

The pair will be recognised at meeting on Wednesday, August 1, at SkillsTech Australia’s Acacia Ridge Training Centre.

FIFO Hub Pilot Survey Responses Exceed Expectations

The number of responses to The District Council of Grant’s online surveys supporting the FIFO Hub Pilot for the south east of South Australia has exceeded expectations.

611 people in the region completed the individual Skills Profile Survey and 44 businesses completed the Business Profile. 

The target for the individual survey was 500. 

District Mayor, Richard Sage says the response rate for both surveys indicates strong support for the pilot.

BUSY At Work set to help school leavers kick start careers in mining

BUSY At Work has been awarded an Australian Government grant to deliver the Get BUSY Mining program over the next two years to assist school leavers obtain careers in the mining industry. 

The program is a joint partnership with Kinetic Group (formerly the Mining Industry Skills Centre) and will be run throughout Queensland. 

Recent statistics have indicated that 59% of mining companies said they were understaffed. This pattern is set to peak in 2015.

Skills Queensland and Kinetic Group have teamed up to undertake a research project aimed at tackling the shortage of workers in statutory roles across the resources sector.

Kinetic Group Chief Executive Officer Derek Hunter said skills shortages already exist across the industry and the turnover and increasing demand for key statutory roles is a serious concern for companies.
