What is the Santos GLNG Project?

The Santos GLNG Project is a pioneering venture to convert coal seam natural gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export to global markets, representing a major investment in a cleaner energy source for the future.

The project involves the development of gas fields in the Bowen and Surat Basins, the construction of a 420km underground gas transmission pipeline from Roma to Gladstone, and a two-train LNG processing facility on Curtis Island, Gladstone.

BMA receives overwhelming response for Queensland Jobs

BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance has received an overwhelming number of applications for its Bowen Basin coal mine jobs.

More than 8000 people have applied for just 250 recently advertised jobs.

Recruits for the fly-in-fly-out jobs in far north Queensland will start work mid-year.

A BMA spokeswoman said the company had received an overwhelming response from people in the Cairns region, including women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and people with limited coal-mining experience.

Easing mining sector worsens job outlook for geoscientists in 2013

According to the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, Australia’s easing mining boom has continued to impact negatively in the opening months of 2013 on the job outlook for geoscientists. More than half of them do not expect to find new work  with the sector appealing for Federal policy intervention to help arrest the jobs slide.

New data released today shows the unemployment rate among this key professional group climbed further over January, February and March this year to a current high within the profession of 7.9%.

Act now to secure one of the Bechtel Adult Apprenticeships

There is limited time to secure one of the Adult Apprenticeships with engineering and construction giant, Bechtel Australia, available through the National Apprenticeships Program (NAP).

NAP is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring Australian workers secure Australian jobs.

Four trades are being offered on Curtis Island in Gladstone; Electrical (Fitter Mechanic), Dual Electrical - Instrumentation, Metal Fabrication Heavy – Boilermaker and Mechanical Fitter.

New project to offer 400 mining jobs

More than 500 construction and 400 operational jobs will be created with Vale and Aquila Resource’s Eagle Downs mine near Moranbah in Queensland next year.

Whilst there are currently 40 works on site now, the number is expected to increase to around 70 over the next 18 months.

A peak workforce of around 400 to 500 people will be employed on the mine by 2014 or 2015.  Once operating, there will be between 350 and 380 people, including permanent employees and contractors.

18,000 Applications for 1,100 Jobs

Recent reports indicate that BHP Billiton’s Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has received more than 18,000 applications for 1,100 roles on the Caval Ridge and Daunia mines near Moranbah.

The mines will be FIFO only and candidates will be sourced from a 100km radius around both Cairns and Brisbane, with the majority of roles being filled from the greater-Brisbane region.
