What is the Santos GLNG Project?

The Santos GLNG Project is a pioneering venture to convert coal seam natural gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export to global markets, representing a major investment in a cleaner energy source for the future.

The project involves the development of gas fields in the Bowen and Surat Basins, the construction of a 420km underground gas transmission pipeline from Roma to Gladstone, and a two-train LNG processing facility on Curtis Island, Gladstone.

Easing mining sector worsens job outlook for geoscientists in 2013

According to the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, Australia’s easing mining boom has continued to impact negatively in the opening months of 2013 on the job outlook for geoscientists. More than half of them do not expect to find new work  with the sector appealing for Federal policy intervention to help arrest the jobs slide.

New data released today shows the unemployment rate among this key professional group climbed further over January, February and March this year to a current high within the profession of 7.9%.

There is limited time to secure one of the Adult Apprenticeships with engineering and construction giant, Bechtel Australia, available through the National Apprenticeships Program (NAP).

18,000 Applications for 1,100 Jobs

Recent reports indicate that BHP Billiton’s Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has received more than 18,000 applications for 1,100 roles on the Caval Ridge and Daunia mines near Moranbah.

The mines will be FIFO only and candidates will be sourced from a 100km radius around both Cairns and Brisbane, with the majority of roles being filled from the greater-Brisbane region.

2013 Australian Mining, Oil & Gas Project Summary

In March 2013, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) released its Industry Dimensions of the Resource Boom research paper. 

Despite sweeping job losses across the industry since September 2012, the resource industry continues to be the fastest growing source of employment for Australian’s having created 130,000 direct jobs over the past five years and 28,500 new Australian jobs in 2012 alone*.

Australia's New Lasseter's Reef

In 1897, Lewis Harold Bell (Harry) Lasseter discovered an extensive gold bearing reef of white quartz west of Alice Springs.  Harry died before the reef could be relocated and mined, and the location of Lasseter’s Reef remains a mystery even today with the potential wealth of the find never realised.  Shortly after the original discovery, samples from Lasseter’s Reef were assayed at three ounces to the ton, a formidable find of any age.

116 years later, the potential wealth of an even richer ‘reef’ goes begging.
