Don't give up on a mining career

Despite more than 11,000 job losses in the mining industry since June 2008, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) and the Minerals Council of Australia this week announced they both remain confident of improvement in the medium term.

Whilst job losses have reduced the number of mine workers in the country to about 130,000, this is still significantly more than the 80,000 workers in the industry five years ago when the boom first started.  In other words, job losses are coming off a high base.

Cut to Skilled Migration Program

1000 reasons to applaud Woodside

We recently featured an inside view of Woodside and this week they confirmed an anticipated boost to their workforce by 1000 as a result of the $12 billion Pluto project in what will be Western Australia's single biggest recruitment drive.

Major subcontractors on the LNG project near Karratha such as Transfield Worley and Clough (for maintenance) and Foster Wheeler Worley (for construction) are mainly seeking pipefitters, boilermakers, welders, riggers, crane operators, mechanical fitters, electricians, storepersons and trades assistants to build the onshore facility.
