Beyond FID

After 12 years of exploration, data collection, analysis, design, negotiation, preparation and above all, sheer hard work, we now embark on the next phase of the Ichthys LNG Project.

While FID has been a major milestone for the Project, we are now looking to our next main goal – first gas safely delivered by the end of 2016.

Building the future of energy in 2012

Construction on the world-class Ichthys Project has already begun. Below is the timeline for construction of the key components of this large-scaleLNG development.

FEEDing success offshore

With the front end engineering design (FEED) phase of the offshore component of the Ichthys Project out of the way, our offshore team is surging ahead in 2012.

They have completed the designs for a subsea production system (SPS), umbilicals, risers and flowlines (URF), gas export pipeline (GEP) and the central processing facility (CPF). Design work on a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel will also be completed in the next few weeks.

Extraordinary Ichthys

Named after the classical Greek word for fish, the Ichthys Project is expected to produce 12.8 trillion cubic feet of gas and 527 million barrels of high value condensate over its 40-year life.

INPEX and joint venture partner Total achieved the Final Investment Decision (FID) for this US$34 billion project on the 13th of January 2012. INPEX Chairman Naoki Kuroda made the announcement in Darwin.

Community springs to life in Darwin

To house the fly-in fly-out workforce required to build the Ichthys gas processing facilities at Blaydin Point in Darwin, the project is designing its Accommodation Village to maximise local participation while minimising impact on the community..

Back in February 2009, we consulted extensively with the community to share information about the proposed Village at Howard Springs in Darwin’s rural area. We discussed our preferred site and broad design concepts, and received feedback about potential issues, as well as community needs and expectations.

Ichthys helps build bright future for the Territory

The economic stimulus created by the Ichthys LNG Project will result in an expansion of the Australian and Northern Territory economies, and greater opportunities for business and employment.

INPEX General Manager External Affairs and Joint Venture Bill Townsend said INPEX is working closely with the Northern Territory business community in particular to raise awareness about the prequalification process.

“We want to make sure as many local companies as possible are eligible to win contracts,” Mr Townsend said.

INPEX takes the show offshore

INPEX recently attended the Offshore Europe 2011 Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen, Scotland. Spanning the 6th-8th of September, this event drew a variety of international players in the oil and gas community to discuss projects, share innovations and define the future of the industry.

Ichthy’s enjoys a big FEED

Located in the Browse Basin offshore north-west Australia, the Ichthys Project is a joint venture between INPEX (owning 76% as operator) and Total (owning the remaining 24%).

Named after the classical Greek word for fish, this project is estimated to produce 12.8 tcf of gas and 527 million barrels of high value condensate.
