NEXUS - Crux

The Crux field was acquired by Nexus in January 2006 and lies in 190 metres of water in the Timor Sea approximately 700 km from Darwin and 600 km from Broome. Crux is 110km south-west of the producing Challis oil field.

In 2006, Nexus sold the rights to the gas in the Crux field to Shell for US$40 million (A$53 million). The agreement provides for Nexus to be able to execute its condensate recycle project until 31 December 2020 at which time Shell will take ownership of the permit and will be able to extract the gas and any remaining condensate.

ENI - Blacktip

Blacktip gas field is located in the Timor Sea approximately 110 km off the shore of Northern Australia in the Bonaparte Basin, at a water depth of some 50 meters. The Blacktip field is fully owned and operated by Eni.

The project provides for the drilling of two initial development wells, the installation of a production platform, the laying of a 108km long offshore pipeline and the construction of an onshore treatment plant with a capacity of 1.3 billion cubic meters per year.

GINDALBIE METALS - Karara Iron Ore Project

For regular subscribers to the site, you will be well acquainted with Gindalbie Metals and the the A$1.8 billion Karara Iron Ore Project, located 225km east of Geraldton, being developed  through a 50:50 Joint Venture with Chinese steel producer, Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation (AnSteel). 

First production is scheduled for 2010.

Agreements are being finalised with key infrastructure and service providers to accommodate both the short and longer term transportation and shipping requirements of Karara.

CiticPacific - Sino Iron Ore Project

CITIC Pacific's Sino Iron project is a world class, large-scale magnetite iron ore project located at Cape Preston, 100km south west of Karratha in Western Australia's Pilbara region. It is the largest planned magnetite project in Australia.

The Sino Iron project has over two billion tonnes of identified ore and targets exports of 27.6 million tonnes of high grade iron ore concentrate and pellets each year over its estimated projected mine life of 25 years.

The project is managed by CITIC Pacific Mining, an Australian subsidiary of CITIC Pacific, headquartered in Perth.

CHEVRON - Gorgon

The Gorgon Project is one of Australia's single biggest developments with an estimated resource base of more than 40 trillion cubic feet of gas and a nominal development life of around 60 years.

The Gorgon Project proposes to build a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production facility on Barrow Island, 70kms off the Pilbara coast of Western Australia.

WOODSIDE - North Rankin Redevelopment (NR2)

Woodside Energy Ltd is one of six participants in the North West Shelf Venture (NWSV), which involves the construction and installation of a new platform - North Rankin B (NRB) and modification of the process modules of North Rankin A.  NRB will be installed alongside NRA with a bridge linking the two platforms.

On 20 February, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh opened Santos' new Gladstone office, which will be the regional base for the world's first major Coal Seam Gas (CSG) to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project.

BHP BILLITON - Pyrenees

BHP Billiton has given the green light to the development of the $2 billion Pyrenees oil project off the coast of Western Australia. The Pyrenees Development consists of five separate fields, these being, Crosby, Ravensworth, Stickle, Harrison and Moondyne. The fields are located in close proximity to each other some 25km northwest of North West Cape, in northern Western Australia. Pyrenees, which is a joint venture between BHP Billiton and Apache Corporation, is expected to produce about 96,000 barrels of oil per day over a 25 year period.

IKM Testing Australia
