  • Operators: BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina
  • Location: Worsley, south of Perth
  • Timeframe: 2 year construction, due for completion in mid to late 2010
  • Cost: $2.5b
  • Employment: A total of 4,000 jobs created across the life of the project with a peak workforce of 1,900. The bauxite mine will create an additional 500 job opportunities.
  • Status: Nearing construction end. In addition to expanding the existing site facilities, a new bauxite mine at Marradong, located 8kms south of Boddington is also being created. The project is one of the biggest industrial developments in the South West of Western Australia.

Existing contracts of interest:

  • Bechtel are the appointed project management contractor for the Project and have recruited for all onsite contractors through a central recruitment facility. Employment enquiries can be made to 08 9774 0800 or at www.registerforandg.com.au.
  • Brierty Limited was awarded a $13.4 million civil works contract which includes bulk earthworks, drainage and road construction for Worsley’s Marradong mine, part of the Efficiency and Growth project. Brierty mobilised a construction team to site in January 2010, with works expected to continue into 2011.
