Nickel West Kalgoorlie, consisting of two sites, the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter and the Kambalda Nickel Concentrator, is one of Nickel West’s operations located in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. Kalgoorlie is close to 600km east of Perth, whilst Kambalda lies just 56km south of Kalgoorlie.

Kalgoorlie is one of Australia’s largest outback cities of approximately 30,000 people, offering contemporary modern living, a vibrant sense of community and breathtaking rural landscapes. Kalgoorlie offers retail opportunities, great sporting facilities and numerous other activities for people of all ages. There are many options for education in the Kalgoorlie/Boulder area with nine primary schools and two high schools. Kalgoorlie is also home to the Western Australian School of Mines, offering tertiary education in mining and minerals, and Curtin University also has their Vocational Training and Education Centre based in Kalgoorlie.

Nickel West Kalgoorlie is located just 20 minutes drive to the south of Kalgoorlie and offers exciting career opportunities on a residential basis and a range of both Monday to Friday and shift rosters. Nickel West Kalgoorlie has the capacity to produce up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of nickel matte and incorporates a flash furnace smelter, converters and an acid plant.The teams working at the smelter are close-knit and there is a strong sense of community within the people working there.

Kambalda has a population of approximately 5900 people, with affordable housing and modern conveniences. Many of our team members are actively involved in community activities such as the Fire Brigade, Football, Bowling, Rifle, Softball, Swimming and Land Yacht clubs. There are a number of events highlighted in the Kambalda calendar each year, including Anzac day and the Community Christmas Tree event held each December for the local children. Kambalda has two schools supporting education through to year 10, and a regular bus service to Kalgoorlie for students undertaking year 11, year 12 and tertiary studies.

Situated adjacent to the township of Kambalda, Nickel West Kambalda treats nickel ore sourced from third parties in the Kambalda region to produce nickel concentrate. The Concentrator has a long history in the town of Kambalda and employs 90 people who reside in the town of Kambalda or commute daily from Kalgoorlie.

Many of our team from both Kalgoorlie and Kambalda enjoy trips to Esperance, situated 3.5 hour drive south of Kambalda. Best known for its picturesque beaches and activities including swimming, fishing, diving and bushwalking make it a popular holiday destination.
