Thiess wins major contract with QGC Queensland Curtis LNG Project

Thiess, a subsidiary of Leighton Holdings, has this week been awarded a $325 million contract to build a coal seam processing plant in southern Queensland.

The contract involves the construction of six field compression stations and one central processing plant in the Surat Basin, about 30km north west of Dalby, to service QGC's Queensland Curtis LNG Project.  The facilities will process gas that will be transported through an underground pipeline network to Gladstone where the gas will be liquefied.

With work due to start in February 2012 and expected to finish in April 2013m the project will employ 570 workers at its peak.

News of the contract follows recent announcements by the company that it had been awarded a six-year mining contract extension at OZ Minerals’ Prominent Hill Copper and Gold Mine in South Australia, together with a Wheatstone construction contract, expected to generate 300 jobs
