The use of ‘simulators’ as vitally important training tools is moving forward at HWE Mining, especially at its South Middleback Ranges (SMR) mine, in South Australia.
An Immersive Technology Simulator is now assessing and honing the skills of all SMR truck drivers – both new to the site and those who are already long-term at the project.
The goal is to ensure that drivers can do their jobs to the best of their abilities, safely. Creating better and safer drivers is the number one priority with the simulator, and those who have used it say it has improved their driving – and, importantly, their knowledge of the vehicle itself.
The simulator replicates ‘real-life scenarios’ for drivers with the whole premise being that drivers – especially new people to the industry – develop a higher level of confidence after using the simulator, which makes them better drivers on the job.
The simulators are just another area where HWE Mining is dedicated to safety and to providing training and development opportunities for its people.
