Southern Cross Electrical Engineering has won Rio Tinto's electrical and instrumentation package at Rio Tinto's Cape Lambert Port Expansion project.
Southern Cross Electrical Engineering Limited specialise in the construction, commissioning and maintenance of Electrical, Control and Instrumentation services to the resource sector. The contract has been valued at approximately $100 million.
It comes just months after Rio awarded it a contract for the power supply at its Coastal Water Project, and the second portion of the Yandi Sustaining Project, which will see it design, supply, and construct a 33kV distribution overhead line.
This new contract is for the supply and installation of the electrical and instrumentation package.
Simon High, Southern Cross' managing director, said the company is "pleased to be awarded the Cape Lambert Port B scope. This is the first project to be awarded to Southern Cross under this framework agreement".
The Cape Lambert Port B project consist of the construction of a new port facility to the existing Cape Lambert port facility.
It will involve the construction of a new train unloading infrastructure, stockyard, and new shiploading facilities, including a new wharf.
SKM is the EPCM provider on the port expansion.
Work will begin immediately and conclude September next year.
