Southern Cross Electrical- Boosting Staff Numbers for Growth

Established in 1978, Southern Cross Electrical Engineering Limited (SCEE), and its group of overseas companies, provides electrical and instrumentation installation services for major construction projects.

Successful contracts have been completed in the mining, mineral sands, petrochemical, and heavy engineering industries throughout Australia, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Ghana, Mauritania, Tanzania, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Jamaica.

In August, they completed their acquisition of the overhead power line construction business operated by K.J. Johnson & Co Pty Ltd. They also received Excellence Awards from the National Electrical and Communications Association for their work on the Cape Lambert electrical upgrade of the stock yard, wharf and ship loading facility. Their Naval Base Team won both the Industrial Award and the OHS&S Award for their work on the project.

With current projects underway in Peru and Tanzania, they are gearing up for significant growth within Australia, stating that they anticipate to increase their Western Australian numbers by up to 400, more than doubling their current workforce.

The Company expects to send some Western Australian staff to cover contracts in mining sectors in countries such as South Africa. Whilst their recruitment drive is set to focus on electricians and electrical engineers, they are also seeking workers such as welders and relatively unskilled trade assistants.
