Saracen – preparing for production start

Saracen hit our radar in July this year when we first blogged about their plans to commence gold production in two stages from within the South Laverton gold field at their Carosue Dam Operations, situated 120km NE of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

The Carosue Dam Operations (CDO), accommodation village and other infrastructure is all located within the South Laverton gold field and supports the CDO processing plant which was constructed by JR Engineering in 2000 and commissioned in November of that year. The CDO operated continuously through to June 2005 when it was then placed on care and maintenance.

In February 2006 Saracen acquired the CDO processing plant as part of a package of tenements known as South Laverton from St Barbara Limited. The processing facility and associated infrastructure remain in excellent working order with minimal upgrade required to reinstate the mill to its full nameplate capacity of 2.4Mtpa.

Gold production will occur in two stages from within the South Laverton gold field with the first stage, beginning March 2010. This will involve the mining of five gold deposits over approximately a three year period. The second stage, scheduled to commence in 2013, potentially provides an additional three to five years mine life, based on presently known resources and scoping/pre-feasibility estimates.

As they now ramp up in preparation for production in 2010, they are recruiting for:

• ELECTRICAL SUPERVISOR
• OPEN PIT SUPERVISORS
• EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – GENERAL MINING POSITIONS
