Back in late 2007 when Rio Tinto announced it’s plans to expand on its iron ore export capacity in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, with the approval of the Brockman 4 mine near Tom Price. Phase 1 was planned to take 2 years to construct and commission with ramp up planned to being in early 2010 and full capacity reached in 2012.

To date, the project is successfully on target and as Rio’s latest Greenfield mining project, it is scheduled to commence pre-strip mining operations in December this year. The mine has an estimated mine life of over 20 years at a 22 mtpa mining rate. With the latest equipment, new camp facilities the opportunities are well worth consideration.

Mobile Equipment Maintenance

Roster - 8 on, 6 off - Fly In, Fly Out of Perth

Seeking fitters to maintain drills (Reedrill and Cubex), dump trucks (Komatsu 830E electric truck fleet), excavators (Hitachi EX 3600 and 5500's), dozers (D11R), graders (16M), loaders and water trucks. Opportunities also exist for Boilermakers, High Voltage and Low Voltage Electricians, Tool Store person as well as Servicepersons.

Drill and Blast

8 on 6 off, 7 on 7 off Roster - Fly In, Fly Out of Perth

Require a number of experienced Drill and Blast Operators to join the Drill and Blast teams. The key responsibilities of these positions will be to operate drills and complete blast crew activities to ensure targets and optimum productivity is achieved, in accordance with Australian Standards and written procedures. Also essential in this role is the ability and willingness to hot-seat production equipment as circumstances may require.

To be successful for drilling positions you will require 3 years experience operating SKSS Re-drills or Cubex drills.

To be successful for shot-firing positions you will require

5 years shot - firing experience within open pit operations
Exposure or experience in contour shots
WA shot firers licence
HR Licence
WA dangerous goods licence
Dangerous goods security card

Load and Haul Opportunities

8 on 6 off, 7 on 7 off Roster - Fly In, Fly Out

The key responsibilities of these positions will be to operate equipment in a safe manner to ensure targets and optimum productivity is achieved.

Successful applicants will possess the following skills and attributes:
2 years experience operating Hitachi EX5500 Face Shovel or similar;
2 years experience operating LeTourneau 1850 Loader or similar;
2 years experience operating D11T track dozer
2 years experience operating Komatsu 830E AC electric drive hauls trucks.
Progression or completion of Certificate IV in Trainer and Assessor is highly regarded but not essential.
Current 'HR' class licence
Strong focus on safety and continuous improvement in the workplace.
