On 3 November, Origin announced that it had acquired a 51.55% interest in the Otway gas project in western Victoria from joint venture partner Woodside for $712.5m.
The sale includes Woodside’s interest in both the offshore facilities at Thylacine and Geographe fields, discovered in 2001 by exploration joint ventures operated by Origin, the pipeline to shore, and the shore-based processing facilities near Port Campbell. Originally, a joint venture was formed to enable development of the fields, and Woodside was appointed as the development operator. The development project was sanctioned in 2004 and production commenced in mid 2007.
Origin says increasing its interest from its former 30.75% will provide additional earnings from natural gas sold under existing long-term contracts to TRUenergy Pty Ltd as well as from LPG and condensate sold from the liquids-rich gas stream.
The transaction is effective from July 1 and will be completed next month, subject to pre-emptive rights under the JV agreement. Other JV partners are Benaris International 12.7% and CalEnergy Gas 5%.
In Victoria, Origin’s Upstream business plays a key role in their fuel integrated strategy, supplying gas for retail markets and lower emission, gas-fired electricity generation. The acquisition of a majority interest in the Otway Gas Project enables Origin to expand their southern Australian operations significantly.
Raw gas is extracted using the remotely operated Thylacine platform and brought to shore via offshore and onshore pipelines to the gas processing plant located north of Port Campbell. Natural gas, condensate and liquefied petroleum is produced at the plant.
They are now seeking expressions of interest for multiple positions within each discipline category:
