The Bronzewing Gold Project, located 83kms northeast of Leinster and 800km northeast of Perth has been an intriguing story of pass-the-parcel. Initially owned by Mark Creasy, it was then taken over by Joseph Gutnick’ Great Central Mines and then sold to Normandy, which was subsequently taken over by Newmont. Newmont then sold the turf to View Resources which started the mine as an open pit and underground venture before going broke early last year, but having done all the hard work by way of prestripping to get to the ore.
Navigator bought the Project and plans to mine only the open-cut segment, at an annual rate of 100,000oz-plus. They are now moving towards re-establishing operation by April 2010.
Infrastructure includes a 2.3Mtpa gold processing plant, airstrip, power station, workshops, offices and an assay laboratory. There is also a 280 person accommodation village with ensuited rooms, and facilities such as dining room, wet mess, swimming pool, tennis, basketball and squash courts, gold driving range and gym.
Navigator's second string is its Leonora project, spoken of as a 742,000oz resource at a similar grade to Bronzewing. The intent is to mine from two shallow pits and truck to a third-party processor. Navigator also target a March 2010 start.
