Demand for lithium, which is used in batteries, glass, air-conditioning and chemicals is expected to triple over the next 10years, so it’s not surprising the race to construct Australia’s next lithium mine has started. The development of Reed Resources, Mt Marion lithium project in WA’s goldfields is being backed by Mineral Resources and the project is proposed to initially deliver up to one million tonnes per annum of ore.
According to a recent announcement from the 2 companies, Mineral Resources will conduct a feasibility study on the deposit with a view to operating the project and earning 40% of net profit, with Reed Resources maintaining the 60% balance, as well as the right to purchase all Spodumene produced. Mineral Resources plans to mobilise the processing plant and equipment to Reed’s Nimbus site in Kalgoorlie by the end of 2010.
News of the Mt Marion project, comes nearly three weeks after lithium producer Galaxy Resources announced it had raised $65 million via a discounted institutional capital raising in order to fund its soon to be developed Mt Cattlin lithium mine in Western Australia. Galaxy is set to produce lithium-rich spodumene ore from its wholly owned Mt Cattlin mine near Ravensthorpe in WA's southeast. It expects to ship the ore to its Jiangsu lithium-carbonate processing facility, which is to be completed by the end of 2010.

A little harder with Reed Resources, unfortunately there is no Careers Page or Vacancies listed on their website and when asked “how do we (job seekers) register interest for jobs”, they don’t really have a facility for this, Reed just advertise when they want someone….
