More than 400 jobs will be up for grabs tomorrow at the Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo in Shellharbour.  The Expo will be held tomorrow at the Shellharbour City Stadium, Croome Rd, Albion Park from 10am and 3pm, giving job seekers from throughout the Illawarra and Shoalhaven the chance to meet potential employers, training organisations and industry representatives.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis said the Expo provides opportunities for both job seekers and local employers.

"This is a great chance for local job seekers and businesses to come together and discuss local job opportunities," Ms Ellis said.

"The Expo will have a jobs board showing what positions are available and a skills board where local training organisations will promote training opportunities in the region."

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr encouraged job seekers to attend the Expo and take advantage of the many opportunities on offer.

"Not everyone on the East Coast is benefiting from the current resources boom. Some people from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions are doing it a bit tough at the moment. The Government and the community see it has an obligation to lend a helping hand. This event does just that," Senator Kim Carr said.

"With more than 70 exhibitors at the Shellharbour Expo I encourage all job seekers to come armed with their resumes and take advantage of the unique opportunity to meet a number of employers in a single day."

The Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expos are being held across the country to provide employment and skills training opportunities for areas that need it most.

Local Federal Member for Throsby Stephen Jones said interest from a variety of industries and local employers will see local job seekers provided with many job opportunities.

"Major businesses such as Bechtel (recruitment agency for major mining and resources projects and other jobs), Roy Hill Mine Project, Commonwealth Bank, Novotel, Skilled (promoting a number of mining jobs), McDonalds Illawarra, Woolworths, Illawarra Retirement Trust (IRT), Austrain Academy, Illawarra TAFE, Shellharbour Council, Wollongong Council and Kiama Council as well as other organisations and training providers are just some of exhibitors attending the Expo with jobs and training for people of all ages and skill sets," Mr Jones said.

"Job seekers attending the Expo will have access to full-time and part-time jobs in blue and white collar industries. There will also be jobs for tradespeople and professionals, apprenticeships and traineeships, casual jobs and more. There's also skills training opportunities for people to upskill as a pathway to employment.

"My message to job seekers is to take advantage of this great opportunity because it is never too late to up-skill, re-skill or re-engage in the paid workforce."
