Last month a group of MMG Group Office employees banded together to form the Mo Metals Group in support of the Movember fundraising and awareness initiative.
Held during November, Movember requires males to grow a moustache or ‘mo’ as it is commonly referred, in a bid to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. Participants are required to register with the Movember Foundation as a mo bro or mo sis and seek sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues to raise funds. In Australia, these funds go towards the important work and research of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyond Blue: The National Depression Initiative.
A special afternoon tea presentation was held on 30 November (the final day of Movember) to recognise the team’s efforts through what was often described as an itchy and uncomfortable month.
The presentation, hosted by CEO Andrew Michelmore, featured a mo fashion parade in which the mo bros paraded down the catwalk showcasing their blue mos (dyed in support of Beyond Blue) accompanied by their mo sis.
The team received certificates, a mo trophy and bottle of MMG wine to thank them for their efforts.
The presentation came to a close with the Mo Bro Auction whereby employees placed bids to shave off their mo bro of choice.
In addition to this, the MMG Executive Committe pledged $2000 towards Movember bringing the total raised to $8705 and giving the team a ranking of 135 within Australia (as at 16 December 2009).
