The following is an overview of the Macedon Project. The number of jobs generated is unknown. The list of contractors is provided to assist you to determine where the job opportunities are during the construction phase. The overview is current as at March 2012.

Operators: BHP Billiton (71.43%) and Apache Corporation (28.57%)

Location:  The Macedon gas field is located in offshore production lease WA-42-L, located approximately 100 kilometres west of Onslow, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Timeframe: 2 years construction period, first production expected in 2013.

Cost: US$1.5b

Employment:  Unknown

Status:  The Macedon project involves four offshore production wells supplying a wet gas pipeline to an onshore gas treatment plant to be constructed at Ashburton North, 17 kilometres south west of Onslow. The domestic gas plant will have a design capacity of 200 million standard cubic feet per day. A sales gas pipeline will be connected to the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline for sale to the domestic gas market in Western Australia.  The Macedon Project is currently in the Execution Phase, following the Final Investment Decision announced in September 2010. First production is expected during calendar year 2013.

Awarded Contracts and Employment Opportunities include:

  • Technip; awarded a contract for the engineering work and services related to procurement and construction management.  The contract covers the onshore facilities consisting of a gas plant and pipeline works. Technip’s operating centres in Perth and Kuala Lumpur will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
  • BGC Contracting; awarded site civil works, including earthworks and site access roads
  • Ocean to Outback Pty Ltd; Earthworks, Underground Services and Installation of Construction Camp
  • Streicher/Clough JV; offshore pipeline construction.

 

 

 

  • Monadelphous; awarded the contract for mechanical and piping installation works associated with the construction of the onshore gas plant. The works are scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of calendar year 2013.
