Bechtel are the appointed project management contractor for the $2.5b Efficiency and Growth Project for the BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina operation. In late 2008, they commenced the first round of recruitment which will see 4,000 jobs created over the two year life of the project, with an anticipated completion date around November 2010. Now at the halfway point and the employment peak, the project is one of the biggest industrial developments in the South West of Western Australia.
A dedicated Recruitment Facility has been established since the start – Worlsey E&G – where recruitment for all sub-contractors is conducted by the one team.
The next wave of recruitment has begun with Bechtel seeking expressions of interest from:
• BOILERMAKERS
• CRANE OPERATORS
• APPRENTICES
• CARPENTERS
• WELDERS
• PIPE FITTERS
• RIGGERS
• SCAFFOLDERS
• ELECTRICIANS
They are conducting information sessions as follows:
Thursday 19 November at the Perth Convention Centre from 6.00pm to 7.00pm
Saturday 21 November at the Joondalup Resort from 10.00am to 11.00am
Saturday 21 November at the Esplanade, Joondalup from 2.00pm to 3.00pm
This time last year, I attended an information session and found it most informative, particularly for those from other industries seeking an opportunity to work on a significant project so close to Perth. This is an opportunity to learn more and to ask questions.
To register to attend a session, call the Worsley Expansion Project Services Office on 08 9774 0800.
They’ve also now established a separate website where you can register your interest: www.registerforandg.com.au.
