Ertech has been awarded the General Services contract with Chevron Australia for its Gorgon Project on Barrow Island, off the coast of Western Australia.
The General Services contract comprises the provision of a multi-skilled work force and equipment which will be based on the Project Site on Barrow Island, and is the third contract to be awarded to Ertech on the project.
Ertech will provide support for the main construction activities on Barrow Island, which include roadworks, earthworks, civil, mechanical, electrical and building works. This contract now means that Ertech will have delivered over $200m of construction works for Chevron since 2009.
Ertech celebrated 30 years of profitable operation last month and is considered to be the quiet achiever in the construction industry. The employee-owned company now employs over 850 people and was recently nominated as a finalist for the CY O’Connor Award in recognition of Engineering Excellence.
Whilst the company employs skilled people in civil engineering, support functions and in operational fields such as drainers/pipelayers, mobile plant operators, welders, concretors, boilermaker/welders and heavy duty plant mechanics, they have also developed an innovative training academy to provide young people with a pathway into the civil construction industry. The initiative, driven and underwritten by Ertech, has support from education and industry leaders.
The Ertech Construction Academy provides students enrolled in Year 11 and 12 the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised Certificate I and Certificate II qualifications in Resources and Infrastructure Operations through on-site training and workplace experience whilst still attending high school.
The Ertech Construction Academy has been successful in that graduates from every year have found immediate employment (with approximately half engaged by Ertech). Of those, more than 75% remain employed in the civil construction industry.
Ertech is also a leader in the training and development of young indigenous people and in 2010 won the “Indigenous Trainer of the Year Award” by the Civil Contractors Federation of WA.
The Academies are located in Perth and Broome. For more information: http://www.ertech.com.au/ertech-construction-academy.html.
