Gladstone LNG Project Update – recruiting NOW

Whilst this major $7.7b LNG project awaits a final investment decision – anticipated by the end of 2009 – work continues to increase the growing workforce.

The project is a joint venture between Santos (60%) and Petronas (40%) and is expected to generate up to 5,000 jobs during construction and sustain more than 200 jobs during operation.

Santos anticipates construction will commence in 2010, with some infrastructure construction prior to this date. In addition to Bechtel being awarded the FEED contract, environmental applications have been lodged.

A summary of workforce requirements is as follows (note that these can obviously change):

COAL SEAM GAS FIELDS
Will require a peak operational workforce of around 1,500 workers based on two fly in/fly out rosters of 14 days on, 14 days off. On site accommodation facilities will be provided.

GAS TRANSMISSION PIPELINE
Will require a construction workforce of up to 1,000, to be accommodated in a number of main and satellite self-contained accommodation facilities along the pipeline route.

Will also require an operational workforce of some 15-20 operational and maintenance workers.

LNG FACILITY
Will require a peak construction workforce of up to 2,000 workers over four years for Train 1. Those based locally will potential do a 50 hour week (Mon-Fri) with ability to accrue RDO’s or take two per month in conjunction with a weekend. Those based outside the local area will potential do a 58 hour week, Mon-Sat on a 4 weeks on, one week off roster.

The anticipated construction schedule is:
Train 1: 2010 – 2014
