Galaxy Resources – Construction Commences

It’s been a huge week for Galaxy Resources. On 5 November, they received final approval from the Department of Mines and Petroleum to commence mining at their Mt Cattlin Spodumene Project based in Ravensthorpe, and the following day, conducted the official Ground Breaking Ceremony with WA Premier, Colin Barnett in attendance.

The project has been fully funded through a strategic partnership with Creat Group, their Chinese investment partner, and with all environmental and works approvals now granted, Galaxy can focus on rapidly advancing the construction of the mine and processing facility to meet the forecast increase in demand for lithium.

Galaxy says that by 2010, the Mt Cattlin mine will be the world’s largest hard rock producer of spodumene and, through the development of its value adding lithium carbonate plant in China, will be the largest and lowest cost lithium carbonate producer in Asia.

Clearly, the development of the project will deliver significant benefits to the Ravensthorpe-Esperance region through its planned residential workforce of some 70-100 and the associated flow on effects for local industry and businesses. Already, the early earthworks contract has been awarded locally to Martins Mining & Civil of Esperance. When we contacted Galaxy to seek this information, the General Manager actually responded – now that’s refreshing!

Martins Mining and Civil is one of WA's leading suppliers of heavy earthmoving services and equipment. They are encouraging expressions of interest for operator, fitting and driving roles. You can download the Registration form here: http://www.martinsmc.com.au/index.html.
