Brockman Resources’ Marillana Iron Ore Project

Earlier this month, we blogged about Brockman Resources’ Marillana Iron Ore Project in the Pilbara being approved by the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority to proceed, and they’ve now announced the appointment of Ausenco Limited as Lead Study Manager for the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) into its development.

Ausenco recently completed the Pre-feasibility Study (PFS) for the Project and will assume the Lead Study Management role for the DFS. Focusing primarily on the development of the processing plant design and infrastructure, Ausenco will work closely with specialist mining consultants, Golder Associates Pty Ltd to develop the optimum mining methodology and schedule. The study work will commence immediately and integrate the results from the extensive resource development and metallurgical testwork program carried out by Brockman.

The final DFS report is forecasted to be completed in Quarter 3 2010. The DFS report will provide a comprehensive forward analysis of the Project’s economics and enable Brockman to confidently finalise its financial investment decisions associated with the development of the Marillana Project.

The $997m Marillana Project is located approximately 100km north‐west of Newman and 280 km south‐east of Port Hedland in the heart of the Pilbara iron ore province of Western Australia, and encompasses two front end beneficiation plants located on site, rail haulage via the nearby BHP Billiton railway line and two North West Iron Ore Alliance berths at Port Hedland.

In conjunction with the Marillana Project DFS, Brockman, as an active member of the North West Iron Ore Alliance (NWIOA), is currently engaged in the completion of a Pre-feasibility Study (PFS) for the development of the “multi-user” iron ore export facilities at South West Creek within the inner harbour of Port Hedland. The Port PFS, due for completion in December 2009, and the subsequent DFS in 2010 will provide Brockman with detailed construction and operating costs that will be incorporated into the overall project financial modelling for the Marillana project.

Currently, Brockman Resources is not recruiting. However, they do retain a database of candidates for future recruitment opportunities. If you would like to send your details to be added to their database, you can do so here: http://www.brockman.com.au/careers.html.
