Brierty wins BHPB civil works contract

A $13.4 million civil works contract with BHP Billiton Worsley Alumina’s $2.5b Efficiency and Growth Project in Western Australia was this month awarded to Brierty Limited.

The contracted works includes bulk earthworks, drainage and road construction for Worsley’s Marradong mine, part of the Efficiency and Growth project. Brierty will mobilise a construction team to site in January 2010, with works expected to continue into 2011.

The major contract comes off the back of more than $35m in additional contract works with long term customers being awarded in the first three months of this financial year. Their CEO, Stuart Crofts said that the company has a proven track record of securing additional and repeat work from existing long standing clients.

A component of the work is with Fortescue Metals Group, with an additional two contracts being awarded for the Pit Embankment Extension at the Cloudbreak Mine and the construction of an access road near Anderson Point.

Brierty is a reasonably young organisation, having only been started in 1981 and by a husband and wife team – Alan and Kylie Brierty.
