For the first time, BHP Billiton Nickel West has commenced direct hire of their apprentices across all sites. Previously, apprentices were employed via CCI Australia.
For the 2009 intake, Nickel West received more than 400 applications for a total of 19 opportunities. This demonstrates that both interest and competition is extremely high! As such, offers are now being made to candidates of all ages - internal and external to Nickel West.
When applying for apprenticeships, it is recommended that you keep your CV brief - particularly given the numbers received - and completely in line with the role requirements. If you have been unsuccessful for this past intake, do all you can to build your experience in tasks and roles that demonstrate an interest in your preferred discipline. Age is no barrier to being offered an apprenticeship and Nickel West boasts a strong number of mature aged apprentices, many of whom did the 'hard yards' at site or in labouring roles.
Nickel West will advertise again next year and will alert candidates via a range of mediums, including here.
