Hancock Coal Pty Ltd (HCPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, is currently preparing for a Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) – expected to be completed in mid 2011 - for the $7.5b Alpha Coal Project.
This major project includes the development of an extensive thermal coal deposit in Queensland's Galilee Basin, about 400km inland from the coast.
The project will encompass more than two billion tonnes of JORC compliant resource with a mining regime of 30 Mtpa produced from an open-cut mine with the potential for development of significant underground reserves. Infrastructure will include the construction of approximately 450km of rail, port facilities, mine infrastructure, process plant, a commercial airstrip and workforce villages.
The Alpha Coal Project is a well known thermal coal deposit within the Galilee Basin in Central Queensland and has an expected mine life of some 30 years. The deposit has massive resources of thermal coal in the premium location of the basin.
In addition, Hancock Prospecting is developing Kevin's Corner Project – a thermal coal deposit, also within the Galilee Basin, Queensland, which sits adjacent to the Alpha Coal Project. This deposit contains very large resources of thermal coal in a premium location of the Basin.
The Kevin's Corner Coal Project will be a 30 Mtpa open-cut and underground longwall coal mine. The operation has an expected mine life of 30 plus years. Their planning is for commencement of construction in 2011 and first production in late 2013.
The Kevin’s Corner Coal Project is anticipated to employ thousands of people throughout its productive (30 year plus) life. The construction workforce could peak at about 2500 people.
Hancock Coal is seeking Expressions of Interest from those who wish to be part of the Alpha Coal Project and to work in the Brisbane CBD offices on preparing and executing the Bankable Feasibility Study.
This is a unique opportunity to be associated with one of the most significant projects undertaken in Australia, both in scope and complexity as well as being the first major mining project in Queensland's Galilee Basin.
