BGC Contracting has won construction contracts valued at approximately AU$120m for Hancock Prospecting’s Roy Hill iron ore project in Western Australia.

These contracts will see BGC build the aerodrome, airport roads, and village roads for Hancock Prospecting in the Pilbara and is expected to generate 4,000 jobs during the construction phase.

According to BGC these contracts complement the previously awarded Early Contracting Involvement for the construction of the railway line, which will see BGC work with John Holland and Macmahon Holdings to build a 340 kilometre rail line from the Roy Hill mine through to Port Hedland.

Work is scheduled to begin immediately, with completion slated for March next year.  The Roy Hill project will begin operations in 2014.
