BUSY At Work set to help school leavers kick start careers in mining

BUSY At Work has been awarded an Australian Government grant to deliver the Get BUSY Mining program over the next two years to assist school leavers obtain careers in the mining industry. 

The program is a joint partnership with Kinetic Group (formerly the Mining Industry Skills Centre) and will be run throughout Queensland. 

Recent statistics have indicated that 59% of mining companies said they were understaffed. This pattern is set to peak in 2015. 

Rio Tinto awards contracts for Expansion Projects in Pilbara

Rio Tinto has recently awarded a number of contracts for its expansion projects in the Pilbara.

The first, a power supply contract, was awarded to Southern Cross Electrical Engineering for Rio Tinto's Coastal Water Project which aims to provide a sustainable water supply for its iron ore operations.

The $17m contract consists of a 37 kilometre overhead power line in Pannawonica.  Work will begin in July and scheduled for completion in February next year.

President of Santos Gladstone LNG provides an update on the Project

Fortescue awards rail contract to Brierty

Brierity Limited has been awarded the contract to construct the rail formation for six sidings on Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine.

Work is scheduled to commence next month and be completed by the end of the year.  Valued at $39 million, the construction of rail formation includes bulk earthworks and drill and blast operations.

The contract win is expected to generate jobs in civil and earthworks construction and drill and blast.

BHP Billiton awards contracts to Downer EDI

BHP Billiton has awarded $70m in new electrical and instrumentation contracts to Downer EDI. 

The contracts will see Downer for responsible for both the greenfields and brownfields transmission line and substation works as part of the Newman HV Power System Augmentation project, part of the broader Jimblebar project.
