MMG Golden Grove and Life Education WA Extend Partnership

MMG Golden Grove and Life Education WA (LEWA) today announced that they have extended their partnership - established in 2010 - for a further three years.

LEWA is a community-based, independent organisation at the front line of positive and preventative drug and health education, working with children and young people via school visits and delivering ongoing curriculum linked programs to help them make informed choices for a safe and healthy life.

Santos launches new skills-based training centre in Adelaide

Santos and TAFE SA launched a new skills-based training centre at TAFE SA’s O’Halloran Hill Campus.

Using refurbished Santos equipment decommissioned from the Cooper Basin, the new facility enables Santos employees, apprentices and members of the public to receive skills-based training on mechanical and electrical equipment unique to the oil and gas production industry.

An innovative, five-day training program has also been developed to increase the efficiency and productivity of Santos’ Cooper Basin operations by cross-skilling personnel.

SKM receives Employer of Choice for Women citation

Leading projects firm Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) has been awarded the 2012 Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) Employer of Choice for Women citation.

The Employer of Choice for Women (EOCFW) citation is a prestigious acknowledgement by EOWA of organisations that are recognising and advancing women in the workplace.

Organisations are assessed against rigorous criteria which consider a number of workplace issues, including pay equity, women in executive management, flexibility, gender-based harassment and career development training.

4,000 jobs created with BGC on Roy Hill project

BGC Contracting has won construction contracts valued at approximately AU$120m for Hancock Prospecting’s Roy Hill iron ore project in Western Australia.

These contracts will see BGC build the aerodrome, airport roads, and village roads for Hancock Prospecting in the Pilbara and is expected to generate 4,000 jobs during the construction phase.

400 jobs created with Thiess Wheatstone LNG contract

Thiess Pty Ltd has secured a AU$450m contract with Bechtel to undertake site preparation works for the downstream portion of the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project in Western Australia.

Thiess will undertake the bulk and final-finish earthworks for the plant, storm water drainage system and access roads around the project.

LNG partnership to build affordable housing in Gladstone

In an Australian-first, three major LNG project operators, Australia Pacific LNG, Santos’ Gladstone LNG and QGC’s Queensland Curtis LNG Project, have signed a landmark $19.8m funding agreement to formally create Gladstone Affordable Housing(GAH), a not-for-profit company specifically structured to help respond to the shortage of affordable housing in the Gladstone region.

Recognising the increased demand in the next three to five years for skilled plumbers, electricians and construction workers for Australian resource sector projects, the Australian government recently announced a number of changes to simplify the process for US tradespeople to work in Australia.

NRW awarded RTIO contracts worth $125 million

Yesterday was a big day for NRW, as we announced the award of three new contracts for Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) to the value of approximately $125 million.

The award includes earthworks at the Cape Lambert Port B expansion project, civil works for the Primary Crusher at the Western Turner Syncline project and the construction of the Boolgeeda airstrip at the Western Turner Brockman project.

Rolleston Coal Expansion Project

Rolleston Coal is a joint venture between Xstrata Coal Queensland Pty Ltd, (75%), Sumisho Coal Australia Pty Ltd and IRCA Rolleston (both 12.5%).

Commencing operations in September 2005, Rolleston Coal is one of the most recent additions to Xstrata Coal’s Queensland portfolio.  Itis located in the southern part of Queensland’s Bowen Basin, 275 kilometres due west of Gladstone, 16 kilometres west of the town of Rolleston and 140 kilometres south east of Emerald.
