Late last week, BHP Billiton announced approval for development of the Macedon gas field in the Exmouth Sub-basin, Western Australia.

Argyle Underground Project - Ramps Up

Rio Tinto recently announced it will invest US $830 million to ramp-up the underground mine project at its Argyle Diamond mine site with the investment showing positive signs of confidence in the industry.

With increasing market demands, the Argyle Underground project is expected to commence full operational activities in 2013 – a move that will extend the life of the mine until at least 2019.

Thank you to all those who recently participated in the mining candidate survey – “The Face of Mining is Changing” and for registering your details.  We had an overwhelming number of participants, and are now in the process of collating the results to present to the mining projects who requested the survey.  To give you a quick snapshot, the survey ran for a month and was completed by approximately 2500 people.

Rosebery Mine Rescue Team continues its success

MMG Rosebery has placed third in the 18th Victorian Mine Rescue Competition at the annual event held last weekend at a number of venues in the Central Victorian gold province of Bendigo. In addition the team had wins and places in multiple events. This builds on the
Rosebery team’s success at last year’s Victorian event and first place in the 2010 Tasmanian Mines Rescue Competition.

Century safety solutions recognised at Health and Safety conference

Two safety solutions developed at Century were recognised as some of the best in the industry at the Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference this week.

The Windrow Delineator, an innovation by Century's Mine Maintenance team, received the Highly Commended Award at the Conference's Innovation Awards last night. The device improves visibility for heavy vehicle operators at night by clearly illuminating the edge of in-pit roads.

Golden Grove walkers raises $50,000 for Variety WA

Approximately $50,000 has been raised for Variety WA after six Golden Grove employees braved a 56-kilometre walk on Sunday 22 August.

The participants took part in the seventh annual Yahoo Yalgoo walk which stretches from the Golden Grove mine site to the town of Yalgoo to raise funds for the charity.
