MMG Rosebery exploration reaches record depths

An exploration drill rig for MMG Rosebery has completed the deepest exploration hole in Tasmania's rich mining history. The hole, located on the surface of Mt Black, above the mine, was drilled by a 12-man crew from drilling contractor Boart Longyear.

The drill hole reached a depth of 2,584 metres on May 5 2010. The rig is now drilling some offshoot holes to the west. These will be completed in about a month.

Gorgon Village Development

The Gorgon Gas participants are developing the Greater Gorgon fields located between 130km and 200km off the North West coast of Western Australia and world class LNG production facilities on Barrow Island.

Thiess Decmil Kentz Joint Venture has been awarded the contract to design and construct a 3,300 person village, which will be home to the construction workforce required for the Chevron operated facility to be built on Barrow Island.

Spinifex Ridge Iron Ore Mining Contract Awarded

Moly Mines has awarded the iron ore mining contract for their Spinifex Ridge Iron Ore Project to BGC Contracting Pty Ltd, at the production rate of 1 million tonne per annum of direct-ship product.   They won the contract following a thorough 8 week competitive tender process against 7 other conforming bids.

Macmahon wins major Gindalbie Metals Contract

This week, Macmahon was awarded an $86 million contract from Gindalbie Metals to construct a service rail line for the Karara iron ore project in Western Australia.

The company will complete the rail earthworks and track-laying to build an 85 km spur line from Karara to Tilley Siding, where it will join the existing Morawa to Geraldton line. 

The track will be supplied by Chinese steel producer and Karara partner Ansteel.

Clash of the Titans

It’s been a while since we last posted a blog for The Resource Channel. As you will be able to see by the photos, things have been happening quite rapidly at the Sino Iron project site at Cape Preston.

Our 450MW power station is nearly ready for commissioning, and two of the world’s biggest grinding mills are on their foundations, with ten more mills being built in China for our state- of-the art processing plant.

The first of four in-pit crushers has arrived and is sitting in its new home in our ever expanding open mine pit.
