PURPLE SAFETY BOOTS!!!!

UGL Resources has thrown its weight behind the ‘Purple Boot Brigade’ which is raising money for breast cancer education and support initiatives around the country.

Every time another pair of purple boots is ordered by our employees, distributor Steel Blue adds a further $20 to the kitty.

HR General Manager Margaret Nielsen says the purple boots are already being worn by site workers at Woodside’s Pluto LNG project.

“The boots cost exactly the same as the traditional brown or black boots UGL Resources currently supplies to site workers,” explains Margaret.

This week GDF SUEZ signed final agreement with Santos for the purchase of a 60% share in three offshore gas fields in Western Australia's north west Bonaparte Basin. This confirms progress on the GDF Suez and Santos Joint Venture Bonaparte LNG project.

According to press release issued yesterday "The Bonaparte LNG project responds to three strategic objectives for GDF SUEZ:

HWE Mining's Oresome Maintenance Division Supervisor!

HWE Maintenance Services Supervisor Jamie O’Regan was recently announced as a BHP Billiton Iron Ore (BHPBIO) Oresome Award Winner, after being nominated by the Senior Maintenance Superintendent at the Mt Whaleback operations in Newman.

Oresome Awards are very rarely given to contractors – so it is an extraordinary achievement.
BHPBIO commented that Jamie’s work was constantly above average, highlighted by the walkways and emergency ladder work he successfully completed on S93 & S95.

A new service wharf is operational which is accepting deliveries of CoreLoc units to be used as protection for the port breakwater. More than 10,500 CoreLocs will arrive from Thailand in almost 30 shiploads between now and July 2010.

The first CoreLoc in Australia was placed on our breakwater on 11 January. Over 30 have now been placed. CoreLocs are concrete armour units which will protect the breakwater from bad weather.

NRW – extended contract with BHPB generates jobs

Civil and mining services contractors NRW Holdings, in a joint venture with Laing O’Rourke and John Holland, have been awarded a variation by BHP Billiton Iron Ore to their existing contract for the southern section of the rail duplication for the RGP5 Project.

The variation is valued at approximately $145 million to the Consortium, with NRW’s additional component worth approximately $105 million.

In a statement by the company, NRW anticipate 170 additional jobs will be generated by the variation.

CBH Resources’ Rasp Mine receives initial approvals

CBH Resources has received the necessary approvals to commence operations at their Rasp Mine in Broken Hill. These approvals allow for the mining and crushing of 120,000 tonnes of ore per annum from Rasp for two years and for this ore to be transported to CBH’s Endeavor Mine near Cobar for processing.

Approval from Industry & Investment NSW was received in December for underground mining operations.

The Company says that they will now work to bring the mine into production by the middle of the year, initially employing up to 40 new staff.

Transfield Agreement with Woodside

Transfield Worley Services, which is a joint 50/50 venture between Transfield Services and Worley Parsons, has signed a heads of agreement with Woodside Energy for the proposed delivery of brownfield project and maintenance services.

The agreement covers the continued delivery of brownfield project services for a further four years to Woodside’s Western Australian offshore and onshore gas facilities, including North Rankin 2, Goodwyn A, the Karratha Gas Plant and the Angel platforms.

HWE Mining's Maintenance Services continues to hit the benchmarks

HWE Maintenance Services (HWE MS) – a division of HWE Mining – is continuing to lead the way in the competitive industry of mining equipment maintenance, mineral/ quarry plant, structural steel, vessels and design in Australia.

In 2007, HWE MS became the first Western Australian company and only the fourth Australian company to be awarded the elite international welding certification – the ISO 3834 – and has continued to uphold these benchmarks, recently receiving its recertification to the standard.

Further Gorgon contracts awarded

The Saipem Leighton Consortium has been selected to develop the $900 million Chevron Gorgon LNG Jetty and Marine Structures project, combining the resources of Saipem and Leighton Contractors.

The scope of work includes design, material supply, fabrication, construction and commissioning of Australia's longest LNG Jetty which includes supply, fabrication and construction of marine structures including a heavy lift facility, tug pens and navigation aids.
