AGC Awarded further contracts for the Pluto project

Woodside has awarded AusGroup’s Australian subsidiary, AGC further contracts as part of the Pluto LNG Project. The AUD$20 million contract is associated with construction of an Effluent Treatment Plant includes the installation of equipment and pre-assembled package units, piping and structural steel work.

Mt Marion Lithium Project

Demand for lithium, which is used in batteries, glass, air-conditioning and chemicals is expected to triple over the next 10years, so it’s not surprising the race to construct Australia’s next lithium mine has started. The development of Reed Resources, Mt Marion lithium project in WA’s goldfields is being backed by Mineral Resources and the project is proposed to initially deliver up to one million tonnes per annum of ore.

Toro Energy – Wiluna Project Update

Toro Energy is a company that formed around three and a half years ago as a uranium exploration group. They formed with the express aim of acquiring resource projects and taking them through development and into production. With future demand for uranium and the demand for a cleaner energy supply, Toro Energy are confident of its strategy to supply uranium to the market from 2012/2013 onwards.

Giovenco wins NT contract

Giovenco is a group of specialised multi-disciplined industrial services contracting companies owned and operated with a common management team by the Giovenco family. The group has been operating for over 50 years and specialise in industrial insulation, corrosion treatment, fireproofing, asbestos removal and providing wide-ranging scaffolding solutions.

With a history of over 20 years and a workforce often peaking at 1,000, Giovenco has provided industrial Construction, Fabrication and Maintenance services over a wide cross-section of Australian blue-chip projects.

Bowen Basin Growth (BBCG) Project

Environmental approval was granted this week by the Queensland Coordinator-General for the new Duania coal mine near Moranbah, in the Bowen Basin.

BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Coal Operations plans to produce 4 million tonnes per annum of high-quality coking coal at the Daunia mine over 21 years.

Construction of the $625m project is expected to begin as early as 2010 and operations are expected to start in 2011m, generating 450 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs.

NRW Contract Restarted

A diversified business offering services including civil and mining contracting, machinery sales and rental, heavy equipment tyre sales, repairs and fabrication, NRW has recently been awarded major work packages with BHP Billiton’s Rapid Growth Project – a $200 million contract to duplicate the southern section of the line in partnership with John Holland and Laing O'Rourke Australia – together with a $350m contract for CiticPacific’s Sino Iron magnetite development at Cape Preston.

Apprenticeship Incentives Announced

US$60.4 million Sepon copper expansion leads MMG's internal growth projects

MMG announced today its commitment to develop three major projects:

  • US$60.4 million to expand production capacity at the Sepon copper operations in Laos.
  • US$3.7 million for design and construction of a flotation desliming circuit at Sepon to improve pyrite recovery.
  • US$24 million to design and construct a new tailings storage facility at Golden Grove in Western Australia.

  • MMG Chief Executive Officer Mr Andrew Michelmore said these projects support MMG’s vision to build a leading global minerals and metals business.

    WDS needs Drilling Crew for Coal Seam Gas

    WDS is an integrated provider of specialist development, design, engineering, construction, fabrication and maintenance related services to the cross section of energy, mining and infrastructure sectors. Their clients include BHP Billiton, Xstrata, Vale, Peabody, Northgate Minerals, Newcrest, Santos and Origin to name a few.

    Melbourne Desalination Project – next round of roles available

    Earlier this year, AquaSure was awarded the contract to build and operate Victoria’s $3.5b Desalination Plant near Wonthaggi. In turn, AquaSure has contracted the Thiess Degremont Joint Venture to design and construct the Project.

    The Victorian Desalination Project is a key part of the State’s Water Plan. It will deliver the largest desalination plant in Australia, capable of supplying up to 150 billion litres of water a year – a third of Melbourne’s annual water needs – with capability to expand to 200 billion litres a year in the future.
