Boart Longyear awarded Vendor of the Year by BHP Billiton

BHP Billiton has awarded Boart Longyear the Olympic Dam ‘Vendor of the Year’ prize.

Boart Longyear general manager of Asia Pacific Drilling Services Diane Bettes said the company is pleased to have received the award from BHP in recognition of its safety programs and client services.

Bettes went on to say “this award is the result of the hard work and dedication of our employees at Olympic Dam.”

CiticPacific Mining’s Sino Iron project involves construction of significant infrastructure including a magnetite concentrator, pellet plant, port facilities, a power station, a desalination plant and an accommodation village. Much of this infrastructure will potentially be available for third party use.

Asphar Survey – awarded Pluto Contract

Asphar Survey Pty Ltd is a Western Australian based licensed engineering construction specialist company servicing major marine and engineering construction projects worldwide since 1996.

With a head office in Perth and offices in Karratha (new as of July 2009), Port Hedland, Collie, Dunsborough and Broome, they’ve worked on some of Australia’s largest projects including Woodside’s LNG Train 4, HiSmelt Project at Kwinana, NHP Billiton’s Rapid Growth Project, and CiticPacific Mining’s Sino Iron Ore Cape Preston development.

Gorgon Site Preparation

Regular readers will know that Thiess were awarded the Site Preparation and Temporary Construction Facilities contract for the Gorgon Gas Project in the north west of Western Australia.

The contract involves the excavation of 4.5m cubic metres of limestone material to be used for the construction of the base plate for erection of the LNG Plant, construction of a 2km seawall using limestone rock material, erection of temporary and steel frame buildings, installation of all underground services to the buildings and construction of concrete bridges and other support structures.

Galaxy Resources – Construction Commences

It’s been a huge week for Galaxy Resources. On 5 November, they received final approval from the Department of Mines and Petroleum to commence mining at their Mt Cattlin Spodumene Project based in Ravensthorpe, and the following day, conducted the official Ground Breaking Ceremony with WA Premier, Colin Barnett in attendance.

MMG Rosebery are Winners 2nd Year Running!

MMG Rosebery won the Tasmanian Mine Rescue Competition for the second year running at the annual event held over the weekend.

The event was also hosted this year at MMG Rosebery on Tasmania’s West Coast and saw teams from six mines come together compete in the event.

Teams demonstrated a professional and disciplined approach to complete the six events said MMG Rosebery Safety, Health, Environment & Community Manager Kevin Morrison.

Woodside NR2 Project - North Rankin redevelopment

Early last year, the North West Shelf Venture participants approved funding of the A$5 billion North Rankin Redevelopment Project which will recover remaining low pressure gas from the North Rankin and Perseus gas fields, and extend the field life to around 2040.

The project involves the installation of a new second platform – North Rankin B – with gas compression facilities, low pressure separators, utilities and accommodation.

Drama at the Gasfields – QGC in the Community

We’ve blogged a few times this year to keep you updated on the progress of Queensland Curtis LNG, which will turn QGC's world-class reserves of coal seam gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG). It’s estimated that about 4,400 new jobs are expected to be created during the lifetime of this project.
