Balmoral South Iron Ore Project receives Environmental Approval

Last week, Australasian Resources, received Federal Environmental approval for their Balmoral South Iron Ore Project, just south of Karratha in Western Australia.

Approval marks a significant step towards developing this project into a world-class iron ore venture. The means the impact assessment process is complete with the Project deemed to be environmentally acceptable. Australasian Resources now anticipates the imminent release of the State Environment Minister’s conditions for implementation of the project.

AGC awarded $100m contract with BHP Billiton

Only last week, we blogged about AGC being awarded a $34m contract for the onshore painting and insulation for Woodside’s Pluto LNG Project and today they have announced the award of a AU$100 million contract by BHP Billiton Iron Ore. This brings the Group’s current order book to AU$500m.

AusGroup’s Australian subsidiary, AGC Industries Pty Ltd ('AGC'), was awarded the contract for the structural, mechanical, piping and heavy haulage of the Rapid Growth Project 5 at the company’s Yandi operation.

Energy Industry Skills Service Launched in Queensland

Energy Skills Queensland and the Bligh Government have joined forces in an $850,000 partnership to meet the energy sector’s training needs and make sure the industry is ready for economic recovery.

Queensland Minister for Education and Training, the Hon. Mr Geoff Wilson said Energy Skills Solutions, based at Rocklea, is a result of a partnership between Energy Skills Queensland and the Bligh Government’s free training and career information service, Skilling Solutions Queensland.

AusGroup Awarded $34m Contract for Pluto

On Monday, AusGroup Limited announced that they had been awarded a $34m contract for the onshore painting and insulation for Woodside’s Pluto LNG Project.

The contract was awarded to AGC Industries Pty Ltd (AGC), AusGroup’s Australian subsidiary, who will undertake the painting and insulation works for the Pluto LNG onshore plant, located on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia, north of Dampier and next to the existing North West Shelf Karratha Gas Plant.

New Research Precinct for Resources Sector

Whilst working with BHP Billiton, I had the pleasure of being a representative on the advisory committee for the Resources and Chemistry Precinct at Curtin University of Technology, which was opened this week.

The Precinct will be one of the largest centres of resources, energy and chemistry research and education in the Southern Hemisphere, boasting more than 200 research, teaching and support staff from the University’s Department of Chemistry and the State Government’s ChemCentre.
